Pacific Poker Review
Pacific Poker has been around for some time, since 2002 in fact. They have accumulated a large player base, and are an action-packed playground for the true hold'em enthusiast.
The software does not have a very good reputation. Even after three upgrades, it is still rather slow, with occasional glitches. The graphics are still rather outdated. However, some advanced features have been added to maximize comfort in gameplay, such as the "check/fold" buttons, the "view flop percentage" and hands played per hour displays in the lobby, and the hand history statistics function. The last feature allows a player to play up his old hands.
We could perhaps attribute the slow software response to the high player population, which takes up much bandwidth. Currently Pacific Poker boasts of a very healthy clientele. As of December 2005 the statistics reflected 4,000-4,500 real money tournament players at peak hours. This makes the tournament section just a bit more popular than the ring games, which sport around 3,000-3,500 players at peak hours. A grand majority of these players concentrate on the Hold'em games, while the rest are at the Omaha Hi-Lo and 7-Card Stud High.
The one thing that Pacific Poker is most famous for: juicy hold'em games. Lower-limit games are amazingly soft. We're talking a 65-70% view flop percentage on $15-$30 tables. The participants are mostly inexperienced and rare to fold, making them easy prey for tight play.
The abundance of easy, aggressive players owes a lot to Casino-on-Net's promotions. Casino-on-Net is the world's largest casino network. No-limit and Pot-Limit cash games were only recently launched, but the constant promotion efforts have made them instant hits with the clientele.
The rake is very high. Like most sites, Pacific Poker has a "No Flop - No Drop" rake policy. The house takes a maximum of $1.25 from the pots in games up to $1/$2. But in games with limits below $2, the house takes less than $1, which makes for better value at lower limit games.
As Pacific Poker belongs to a reliable network, security is assured. There is a wide variety of deposit and cash-out methods to choose from. Regarding customer support, the site has both email and phone support. The former has an excellent response time, but the phone support takes a while to respond to certain issues. If you would like to inquire about major issues like blocked accounts and such, you'd stand a better chance of getting the help you need via email.
