VIP Poker was launched in 2004. Though relatively new, it shares a playerbase with pioneer site Planet Poker. As a member of a larger network, it links to sister sites on sports betting and casino gaming.
Traffic in the site is relatively slow, with only up to 900 people at peak hours. The clientele is split evenly between the ring games and the tournaments. At the moment its player traffic is nowhere close to the traffic of larger sites like PartyPoker and ParadisePoker.
In spite of the low population, this site offers extremely attractive tournament packages. There are $21,000 guaranteed tournaments every week. The game lineup is rather standard: Hold'em, Omaha, Omaha hi/lo, 7-card stud, and 7-card stud hi/lo. Draw was also part of the original lineup, while it is fairly uncommon in most poker sites. Recently the site started offering daily No Limit Hold'em tournaments, in the VIP Tournaments section.
Since the playerbase is sparse, games tend to be soft. Short-handed tables produce very loose games, though they are in fact rather hard to find. The easy wins in cash games make up for the almost total lack of tournament action.
The software is stable, though the features are rather basic. The graphics also seem a bit outdated. Customization options are good, but the "old school" feel persists no matter how you change the color of your chips, the audio, the color of the gaming table, or the way your 3D avatar looks.

Bonuses are rather good. You are given a $20 deposit bonus up to $50 upon signing up. You are also automatically entered in a $500 guaranteed freeroll tournament, which occurs on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. The first place winner of this tournament takes home $200.
Cashing in bonuses rely on your ability to earn VIP Points. 60 VIP Points can be cashed into a $1 bonus. A player can opt to activate a VIP Rewards account, after which every $1 he contributes to the rake will be counted as 60 VIP Points. The more Points a player has accumulated, the more chances he has of winning one of the extravagant gift items offered. A player who has activated his VIP Rewards account may also receive cash awards for certain numbers of VIP Points earned (i.e. $2 for 2000 points, $100 for 100,000 points).
